Senior Legal Counsel

An established and fast-growing technology business is looking to appoint a senior commercial lawyer to join its in-house legal function.

This is a high-impact role for an experienced commercial solicitor who enjoys working closely with sales, commercial and leadership teams and who is comfortable taking ownership of complex, high-value technology transactions.

The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting the company's continued international growth, advising on major customer agreements, strategic partnerships and technology-related matters.

The Role

You will act as a trusted legal adviser to the commercial side of the business, providing pragmatic advice while helping teams move transactions forward efficiently.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Negotiating complex technology contracts including SaaS agreements, software licences, professional services arrangements, strategic partnerships and enterprise customer contracts.

• Leading commercial negotiations from a legal perspective, taking ownership of risk allocation, liability, intellectual property, service levels, data protection and other key contractual provisions.

• Supporting major bids and sales processes, advising on RFPs, commercial structures, pricing arrangements and contractual risk.

• Working closely with senior commercial stakeholders to find practical solutions to legal and contractual issues.

• Providing clear, concise and commercially focused legal advice in a fast-moving environment.

• Developing and improving contracting processes, templates and playbooks to create greater consistency and efficiency.

• Delivering practical training and guidance to commercial and bid teams on contractual processes, risk and regulatory considerations.

• Advising on technology-related legal matters including data protection, privacy, information security, cloud services, intellectual property, open-source software and AI.

• Working with colleagues and stakeholders across multiple international markets and, where required, supporting significant negotiations internationally.

About You

We are looking for a commercially minded lawyer with significant experience in technology and commercial contracting.

Ideally, you will have:

• Qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales.

• Strong experience negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements, particularly within a SaaS, software or technology environment.

• Detailed knowledge of areas such as IP licensing, cloud arrangements, liability provisions, data protection and technology implementation.

• A proven ability to lead negotiations independently and take clear positions on contractual and commercial risk.

• Confidence operating as the principal legal contact on significant transactions without requiring constant senior oversight.

• Excellent judgement and the ability to distinguish between genuine legal risk and issues that can be addressed pragmatically.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex legal issues into clear, actionable advice.

• Experience working across international transactions and multiple jurisdictions.

• A strong understanding of the commercial objectives behind a transaction and the ability to balance legal protection with the need to get deals completed.

The following would be particularly valuable:

• Previous experience within a high-growth technology or SaaS business.

• Experience working in a scale-up environment where processes are evolving rapidly.

• Exposure to the energy, utilities or wider infrastructure technology sector.

• More advanced experience in data privacy and technology regulation, beyond general GDPR advice.

• Experience advising on emerging technology, including AI-related contractual and regulatory issues.
