Overview
A leading global law firm is seeking a mid–senior level associate to join its life sciences patent litigation practice. The team represents pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies in high-stakes disputes, including Hatch-Waxman litigation, biologics disputes, and related regulatory matters.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and support all phases of U.S. patent litigation, with a focus on life sciences matters, including pleadings, discovery, claim construction, and trial
Handle cases arising under the Hatch-Waxman Act, including Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) litigation
Work on biologics-related disputes under the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (BPCIA)
Draft and review motions, briefs, and technical submissions relating to infringement, validity, and enforceability
Collaborate closely with scientific experts in fields such as molecular biology, chemistry, pharmacology, or immunology
Conduct and defend depositions, including expert witnesses
Participate in trial preparation and trial teams in bench and jury trials
Coordinate litigation strategy with regulatory considerations involving the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
Work with global teams on parallel proceedings and cross-border disputes
Candidate Profile
J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar
Typically 4–7+ years of patent litigation experience, with significant exposure to life sciences matters
Experience with Hatch-Waxman / ANDA litigation strongly preferred; BPCIA experience is a plus
Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a life sciences discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, or related field)
Strong understanding of complex scientific concepts and ability to translate them into persuasive legal arguments
Experience with expert discovery, depositions, and motion practice
Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office is a plus
Excellent written and oral advocacy skills
Ability to manage multiple matters and work effectively in a collaborative environment
